Westminster Colorado
Westminster is a suburb of Denver, with a population just over 105,000. It is named Westminster in honor of the Westminster Castle. The Castle which today houses Pillar of Fire Church’s Belleview Christian Schools is a National Historic Landmark. It was originally built as Westminster University intended to become the Princeton of the West.
As a Denver suburb, the city has much available to it in terms of Westminster entertainment. As a site for a restaurant, Westminster, Colorado can claim any of various ethnic foods, such as Greek, Italian, Mexican and Asian. Typical American food places include steak houses and seafood restaurants as well as many of the national family dining chains.
Westminster is a city that’s proud of small town values. To that end, Westminster recreation sites where families can participate are important. Some of the Westminster Colorado recreation centers include aquatics, water slide, three pools, a rock-climbing wall, a weight area, racquetball/ basketball courts, a steam room and a sauna. There’s an adult-level fitness center, four playing fields plus a professional quality soccer field complex. A disk golf course, a skate park and outdoor ice rink are all part of the recreational opportunities offered to city residents.
When you must have a little ‘retail therapy’ the Westminster Colorado Mall will be just the place to go. Dillard’s, J C Penney’s, Sears, Macy’s and 140 other stores make up the commercial outlets in this busy location. There are often entertainment events sponsored by mall management to bring shopping crowds from Denver as well as locally.
Westminster Colorado high school is classified as an urban fringe to large city school with almost 1400 students in grades 9-12. It is very mixed racially, and is one of nine high school level institutions within the area.
Westminster Colorado library has two locations. The Irving Street location has some unique features such “Speak English” groups, while the College Hill Library is a joint effort between the Front Range Community College and the City of Westminster.
